10 Birthmother Stories Guaranteed To Change The Way You Look At Birthmothers

There’s no other way to put it: Birthmothers have gotten a bum rap.

While adoptive parents are praised for “saving” children, birthmothers are attacked for “giving them up.”

But neither story gets it right. Like so many things in life, the reality is a lot more complicated.

All adoptive parents aren’t saints and all birthmothers aren’t sinners.

In much the same way that there are many different reasons why prospective parents turn to adoption, there are many different reasons why birthmothers choose to place.

When we began our adoption journey, I confess that this was all news to me. I thought all birthmothers were alike.

But now, 16 years later, I know better.

So what changed my mind?

Meeting my children’s birthmothers face-to-face for one. And getting to know them and other birthmothers for another.

These 10 stories and interviews culled from our blog helped, too.

I hope you’ll read them and share them. When you’re done, check out how we’ve shared them on our PinterestFacebookInstagramTwitter feeds.
